Sajek Travel Guide: Best Time, Cost & Route Plan
Everything you need before your first trip to the kingdom of clouds — routes, resorts and real costs.

Sajek Valley sits at roughly 1,800 feet in the Rangamati hill district, and for most of the year it floats above a sea of clouds. If you only take one hill trip in Bangladesh, this is the one our travellers rate highest — but the journey needs a little planning, because the valley is reached by a military-escorted convoy on fixed schedules.
The best time to visit is October to March. The monsoon months bring dramatic clouds too, but landslides can close the Khagrachhari–Sajek road without warning. In winter the mornings are cold enough for a jacket, the sky is clear, and sunrise over Konglak Para is at its best.
Getting there takes two legs. An overnight bus from Dhaka reaches Khagrachhari in 8–9 hours. From there, a reserved chander gari (the open-top hill jeep) climbs to Sajek in about 2.5 hours, travelling in the morning or afternoon army escort convoy — independent vehicles are not allowed outside it. Our group tours include both legs, so you simply board in Dhaka and wake up in the hills.
Budget honestly: a 3-day group package with transport, eco-resort rooms, all meals and a guide runs ৳8,500 per person at the time of writing. Independent travellers usually spend more, not less, because the chander gari is hired per vehicle, not per seat. Resorts range from simple cottages to valley-view rooms with balconies — book the balcony; the clouds are the whole point.
Spend your mornings at Konglak Para, the highest point, and your evenings at Ruilui Para and the helipad sunset point. Alutila Cave and the hanging bridge in Khagrachhari fit neatly into the return day. Mobile networks are weak and electricity is solar-limited in many resorts, so download what you need and carry a power bank.
One respectful note: Sajek is home to Chakma, Tripura and other hill communities. Ask before photographing people, buy the local woven goods at the village shops if you can, and leave the hills as clean as you found them.
